Went out late in the afternoon and although bethe mosquitoes were thick, they left me with a pint or two of blood.
Sort of disappointing because I was only locating old black iron bits of things but I finally struck GOLD!
CHECK IT OUT.. I don't know if I can clean it without destroying it but it looks like some sort of gold plated spoon. If there's a flatware expert among us, let me know what you think. Oh yeah, pulled a black metal for out too. I'll have to go back soon. Who knows, maybe I'll find the rest of both sets! :laughing7:

Well done,, I love water hunts. I used to hit the Atlantic beaches from Connecticut to Florida.
I live in Pennsylvania now so i guess i will have to start focusing on the creeks.
Congratulations on your finds.

Nice finds. My hats off to you and other creek and river hunters. I hunted a river for the first time a couple months ago, and I really struggled on the retrievals. You water hunters sure make it look easy on videos. I did find some clad, but that's about it. You certainly did better than I did. Congratulations and happy hunting. Watch out for mosquitoes, they are especially nasty this year.

Any recommended suggestions to CLEAN these babies?
Or do you think they might be too far gone? They don't feel brittle at all. I'm just worried about rubbing off the gold if it is plated.
I don't imagine they made many solid gold spoons at least not for normal folk around here.

Olive Oil or leave it alone?

Very nice finds! Try a little lemon juice with a q-tip on a small spot to see if that cleans it. I've used lemon juice to bring out the gold on old buttons. I would try it.

I've tried to do the creeks around here but they are pretty much nothing but deep thick rocks with some gravel thrown in. Being too close to these mountains means most of the dirt/mud is long gone years ago. so you are doing pretty darn well
