1600’s??? Nope 1700’s...

I had a fun hunt at a new cellar hole spot. It was supposedly a 17th century French Acadian cellar but all I could find was evidence of later 18th century British occupation. It makes sense though because after the British expelled the acadians from most of Nova Scotia they claimed their land as their own and lived in the same houses or built new ones on top of of the original cellars. I was super excited about maybe finding some old French silver but still had some nice finds like shoe buckles, flat buttons, musket balls and three British george ii half penny’s. I still have more area to explore and hope to find more cellars holes that I was told are around there. My only problem is it’s over a 3 hour drive away. To add some more modern finds to the hunt for a little bonus I dug a silver 1947 dime, a toy tractor and a first for me 1928 first trans Atlantic flight medallion which was pretty cool. Thanks. I will get back for sure. There was some long grass spots that could be hiding some stuff there yet also. I hope to explore through the woods and find some more virgin cellar sites yet too sometime. Winter and my busy work season creeping up on me very fast which sucks big time!

Those are some great 18th C. finds! I especially like the knee and shoe buckles. Looks like a great site, hopefully there's an early silver somewhere around there!

Nice finds and thanks for posting from NS. Your hunt for relics from the French settlement is poignant for me since Port Royal is the first permanent home of my ancestors from France in the first decade of the 1600's . They were evicted by the British in the 1760's and went to Quebec. I would love to detect NS to reconnect with my family's past. As far as I know, none returned to NS, although I understand some French families did return in the late 1700's and 1800's.

LOL. Certainly no grudges from me. After all, I scandalized the family by being the first one to marry a non-French girl. I fell in love with a beautiful Irish/Scottish/British redhead. We have to find out if our ancestors ever fought against each other.

Congrats you are onto a great site! That is cool to see a holed KG II sometimes I think that makes a coin better! I feel like one sees a lot of silver coins from that period holed but not as many coppers. That complete shoe buckle is a really great find I would be so excited to find that stuff but especially the shoe buckle!
