Hi All,

Long time, no post.

It's been many, many months since I even looked at my machine- until the end of this past week. I posted some nice finds I made at the home of a former co-worker of mine last November, and since it was an open invitation, I thought it was time to pay old Ralphy-boy a visit today to get primed for the season. Little did I know the yard would yield some more great finds.

Not two minutes into the hunt, I got a nice deep silver hit- an 1876-CC Seated dime. The coins seemed to be jumping out of the ground at me. All in all, I came up with the following: a sweet 1834 Capped Bust Half-Dime, 3 Seated dimes, 1875- well worn and stained, 1876-CC and 1891, 3 large cents- 1827, 1844 and 1851, 3 Indians- 1871, 1884 and 1903 and a bunch of wheats.

I apologize for the lousy picture but if you can make out the detail, the 1871 Indian is in incredible shape- Full Liberty, loads of detail front and back, and I would call it conservatively a Fine- it's probably VF or better. Anyway, check out any price guide for an 1871 Indian in F- PCGS currently has it at $245. I'm going to send it in to ICG to be certified and see what they say.

Hopefully the rest of the season will be as good as today.

Good hunting all.

Jeff

Wow, Jeff, what a fantastic hunt!!! Heaven's forbid you find some mercs/rosies.... ;D :D

Beautiful bust half dime and IH. Plus three seateds and three coppers. I haven't seen an oldie coin post like this in a while.

That's what I call an extremely fast start. ::)

Congrats,

What an outstanding haul of 19th century coins - especially that Capped Bust Half Dime which is in extremely fine condition. As you know Capped Bust silver is pretty rare. I've got two: an 1814 holed Dime and an 1829 Half Dime in nice condition. In my opinion, the Capped Bust is one of the finest designs of all the American coins. Here's a picture of my 1829 Half Dime that I found back in April of this year. If you look closely you can the initials WM.
