Went detecting with two buddies on a row of old houses owned by the city school district and set for demolition. Found a mixture of old and new. My favorites from this area were the Jim Beam Zippo lighter, the big brass buckle (use?), the big laundry safety pin, and the octagonal "Clover leaf Past'd Milk" token, "good for one pint milk."
We then went to a long abandoned farm, first settled in 1830, and hit it until sundown. This site has been POUNDED regularly by experienced detectorists for over six years. But it ain't EVER hunted out! My friend insisted that I try his NEL Snake coil on Maxine, my ATMax. Here are the results.
Bits and pieces (token not found at this site, see above) The four-hole shirt button is from a Dundee, Scotland, UK, maker. We have found several four hole buttons here and they are all from different makers, yet all from Dundee, Scotland!
Pocket watch gear, corset hook, part of the hinge from an antique folding ruler.
Approximately 1 1/2" diameter hollow brass ball with factory square hole (use?)
1892 IHP and 1934 Wheatie.
Large (Great coat?) size US General service button with gilt remaining. Brass three piece design.
This two piece brass item has a patent date of October, 1890, and Feb 17 (?) Update. Patent search shows it was part of a suspender buckle assembly.

I tried once with an old crusty cap gun that was stuffed with dirt and falling apart and they about had a fit. Had to check it separately in it's own special pouch and put in the baggage hold. We may think we're winning the war on terror, but, I'm not so sure that THEY haven't!
