We had already finished the small area of this field that was Winter drilled. (took us 3 days) However, they have now cut a larger area that had up-to 5ft high weeds all over it & they are planning to leave it for Spring drilling when I think they will deep plough in the rest of weeds/grass/stalks. The going was pretty good, just a few large stalks left to swing around, but at least it was not on sticky mud & the wet sandy soil was a dream to dig.
The plan was to get a hammered, as we have had a few in the past. We gridded for 5.5 hours & as a little bit of everything comes up, the motivation was high.
(lots of trash to clear though)

Hunts, 17th C, & Tudor Button
Crotal Bell
3 Lead Tokens
Late Medieval Buckles
x2 17th C Leather Mounts
3 Scrappies
2 Jettons
17th C Halfpenny Token
1797 Penny
Hammered Henry III Cut Halfpenny
11th C Anglo-Scandinavian (Viking) Stirrup Mount (Class A, Type 1) (It has 2 opposing Dragon Heads, but hard to make out)This is probably my best example & it's been several years since we had one.8-)

The serpentine bodies were silver inlay. The heads faces outwards on the edges of the mount, you can see 1 almond shaped eye on the right hand side.

You can also make out the lower part where the dragon tails circle and cross themselves. Gives you a good idea how it looked once. Must been an absolutely beautiful mount.

Thanks for posting ... again Crusader. I probably won't get to England until after I find at least one of the several meteorites I'm looking for.

OK, good luck, that would be pretty cool on both fronts.
