I was out yesterday and today. I went to two different sites. Both go back at least as far as the French and Indian War. There was a ton of iron in the ground, and lots of just plain junk. I dug enough aluminum to make a few cases of soda cans.

Anyway, I THINK this button may be one of the harder to get Washington Inaugurals. There isn't much left of it, but I can see the vertical lines of a heraldic shield on it. Any thoughts appreciated. It's too thin for a coin. gw1.jpg gw2.jpg gwrear.jpg Last pic is the rear.

Also a KG II and KG III, I can't read the dates. grexii.jpg grexiii.jpg

Can anyone help on these two? The second one could possibly be French. grexmaybe.jpg unk.jpg

Any fluids on them will trash what's left. I'm not even sure the Andre's pencils will bring them back. Both sites were corn fields, and we all know how that goes.

I think last one is A KG.

The shield lines seem to be in the correct location for a GWI.

Great finds!

Thanks guys. I had the one KG mis oriented. My cat is helping me type at the moment.

Anyway, that one button is most likely a GW. I found some buckshot, musket balls, another button, and a spectacle buckle. Not much else 18th century.

There was SO MUCH junk at site #2 it wasn't funny. No modern coins.

I'm thinking pic #6 is French, maybe Louis XV. BAD ground. This one MIGHT clean up some. The Washington one just has a bit of the stamping remaining on it. Hey, you can't find great looking stuff all the time!

I turned it 90 degrees and also 180 degrees. There just isn't much there anymore. BAD ground. gw3.jpg gw4.jpg gw5.jpg gw6.jpg gw7.jpg

#6 is a 1733 British penny. I tried some more cleaning.

xcopperstax, I really, really can't tell for sure. There are actually a few ca 1787-89 coins it also resembles. Most of those are so rare they make the Washington Inaugurals dollar wise look like Yankee eagle buttons in comparison. I'm doing more research today.

gw11.jpg I rubbed some graphite on it to highlight a little detail. However, I don't think I'll figure it out.

This item is really bad, probably very rare too. A Ghost Toastie as I call them. Anyway, I'm wading through all my books and some online literature. There is a possibility at 27 mm it is a coin. The Inaugurals didn't come in that size. I just thought to measure it. I cleaned it some more and can't find a shank. A few diplomatic corps buttons, hugely early ones, have lined eagles on them too.

I can tell you what it is NOT:

It is not a USA Bar cent - that would have been sweet.
It is not a NJ copper - the lines are wrong.

A few of the heraldic eagles on the post colonial Washington copper issues look similar.

These and the Inaugural buttons have those lines on them. There isn't much else to choose from. The other side is still obscured.

Would love to see the spectacle buckle. Imo, a much better find than most any copper even a toasted GW

I dug another 100 targets. All were 20th century. All wound up in the trash.
