Hello,

I was going through my change jar, and I found three interesting pennies. The backs of the pennies are unlike anything I've ever seen. One of them is very old, and simply says one cent on the back. The other two has a design revolving around Abraham Lincoln.

Obviously, I know that they are pennies. Does anyone know why These pennies have this design? I know about the one that simply says one cent. Used to collect those a lot.

regardless, I find this find interesting.

The old one is a wheat penny, that was the design used on all pennies from 1909 to 1958. The other two are from the 200 year anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.

Awesome, thanks for helping me out with that! I really should get back into collecting coins. I used to do it a lot.

Asked and answered, jnicholes. I like how much other people know about what you just discovered.

Wheat cents are fun and you can get more than face value from the net or a coin dealer.

22 years old. In fact, there must have been a Mistake in what I've typed. I have seen wheat pennies before, just not that often. I didn't even know they were called wheat pennies!

Wheat pennies are fun to collect, and there are some tough/rare date coins in the series. Won't list them all here, you can do your research. Try going to auctions or estate sales - you can usually buy them by the bag or "lot" and search thru them, hoping for a rare one.

Keep your eyes on your change, especially around the holidays. I frequently get handed back wheat pennies, I was even handed an Indian head penny once last year.
