Hey folks,

Got out for some afternoon hunting in the sunshine with forum member NoThisIsPatrick and had a lot of fun. We tried some different sites around the city. We didn’t have too much luck (the wheat penny pictured below is from a short hunt last night) but the quality targets I did find were pretty cool.

The first good target of the day for me came from our second site. It’s a sterling silver star ring. Don’t know much about it but I’m pumped to have it.

After striking out at some other sites (not so much as a wheat!) and digging loads of clad I was getting an iffy signal at 4 inches. After some searching it looked like I had a small silver coin. I could tell it was smaller than a dime and figured I had found a Canadian fishscale.

After looking more closely, it turned out to be a 1945-D Ten Centavos from the Philippines. Badass! I’ve always wanted to find a silver, Philippines coin. I found a copper 1 centavo from 1944 earlier this year and my brother found a 1903 S Peso (silver dollar) from the Philippines earlier this year. Definitely thrilled with that unique find. It’s my first non-Canadian foreign silver coin so that was a special treat.

All in all, a fun little multi-silver outing. Good luck out there this weekend everyone!

Sorry to hear that! Despite our lack of much history earlier than the early 1900s, that’s one of the blessings of being in the Seattle area. You can probably hunt 50 weeks a year if you don’t mind the rain and darkness.

Congrats on that silver Philippines coin! One of the advantages of living on the west coast is that we have a better chance of digging those World War II era sliver coins from the Philippines.
These are neat looking coins, all of them minted in the USA with the S, D, or P mint marks.
