I purchased the Equinox 800 last month and I have been able to hunt a handful of times (aside from a couple of wheat pennies, nothing else worth mentioning). Today, I went to a local park for a couple of hours and found four keepers with the new detector. The first I found was a 1919 “S” Mercury dime! I have had a silver drought lately and this was great to see! After I took a picture of it, I started swinging again and about five feet away from the Mercury, I had another good tone. After cutting a plug, out popped a 1914 Barber dime!

I figured I was in a great spot and started digging every signal in a five yard area. One of the signals I dug was a 1901 V nickel (whoot whoot)! The last signal for the day I dug was a wheat penny. It had been in the ground for awhile because of the green patina that covered it. It was too thick to tell a year. When I got home, I washed it off and saw that it was a 1909 “S”! I have been working on the back to see if it is the “special” one. Still can’t tell after having it soak for a few hours. It would be great if I see VDB! If I find that it has that, I will post updated pictures. Until then, here are some pics from today.

Update: No initials, but still excited to find a “S”! Thanks for looking.

Way to go on a nice haul there! That’s a day that most of us would take tomorrow given the chance. I got my first 1909-S Wheatie early this year. Wasn’t the VDB variety unfortunately but they are still cool to find regardless.

that's awesome. just a plain 1909-S wheaty is a rare and valuable coin. Hope you discover the coveted VDB, but even if you don't you still have a winner. Congrats!

Nice recoveries. What part of Arizona are you in? I don't want any specific park, just general location. Most of what I dig up out here looks like your coins. This soil is not kind to coins.

I hunt in and around the south east of Arizona. You are right about the soil down here. Not nice to coins.

That’s why you haven’t heard from me in so long washingtonian I can find a piece of silver to save my soul. It’s so bad I’m doubting myself if I forgot how to metal detect. I’m embarrassed [emoji30]
