Almost had a heart attack today when I dug an odd square shaped piece of metal. Looked closer and saw 1652:hello2: and about collapsed. It looks clipped but its near full weight at 4.4 grams. Were these clipped like this at the mint sometimes? I havent done a thing to it other than rinse it off with fresh water. Scared to do anything to it really as it looks to have great details underneath. EDIT: I did q-tip some of the flakyness off on the obverse but Im not going any farther for now

Thanks for all the comments and banner votes everyone. The obverse was flaking pretty bad so I lightly wet q-tipped it and now it looks a little better imo. Im never selling it anyway. Here it is next to the little cut piece I found last year

Im still learning about these coins but I believe it to be a Noe I(pellets) large planchet variety and an early one at that as the die crack in the date is not yet visible. So it should date around 1670 I believe

Wait a minute this is your second tree coin! Lightning does strike twice. Wow this is just incredible. If memory serves me correct you found a gold coin this year too! I hope to find one someday. I think with some professional cleaning that could look really nice... It already looks really nice. Just think this could have been handled by a Pilgrim. Maybe that's a stretch but it seems possible. I'm a believer in that. Congrats and this is definitely a banner.

Please give a repost once it's had it's final cleaning if you do go that route. I don't know much about cleaning a coin this important and significant but seems like a job for the pro's.
