Hunting today, I thought I got skunked. Went to the same spot I found the two mercs a week ago, and all I found was a 1940 wheat. Got home and started cleaning my finds, and out of a muddy mass this beauty emerges!
Button backmarks, W H Horstmann and Sons.

The back is broken, but the front looks much better than the example on the website.
Gotta wonder how a military button from the 1880s ended up in a spot that dates to the 1910s!
Thanks for looking. 20191202_171625.jpg 20191202_171656.jpg 20191202_165925.jpg

It looks like it has retained about 95% of the gilt! Very nice button find! Congrats!
