This is all I could muster up today on an abbreviated hunt due to all the activities at church. I think the bullet is Civil War, but the ring thingy appears to be much newer......or not. Any ideas as to what it is? It's brass and has what appears to be graduated threads or two sets of threads. The posts have dimples in the outer ends but they are very shallow. Looks like maybe a fire hose attachment to me, but just a random guess! The quarter is for size comparison only. Thanks!

Your bullet looks like a civil war variety to me. Your whatsit looks like part of the brass end of a heavy canvas fire hose like the ones used on fire trucks. Keep swingin.

Thank you!--I was leaning towards some sort of hose connector too, Thanks for your help.

That would be great! I'm afraid I don't know my bullets, but am going to find some reference materials and try and figure them out from now on--thanks again!

I agree, the bullet is a Confederate Gardner, as previously stated.
