Hit 3 new spots over the last two weeks. Including today for a few hours. Picked a spot on a map I have and hiked in today. After a couple miles, I found a nice colonial cellar. It had very few targets but I also only had my 6inch coil with me so I barely covered 10% of the site. First target is the broken coin in question. It came out of the ground shiny, but the little detail on it has me scratching my head. It almost looks like the lower bust on a KGIII copper, but the coin is heavy and silvery in color. Rang low on the equinox, only an 11. the reverse has even less detail, but comparing it to a british copper reverse, I almost see the top half of britania. Its hard to capture that part on camera.

pulled 3 buttons from the new spot and a toasted copper. Probably british.

Last picture is of the random finds i managed to swing over, 2 ox knobs, 3 dandys, a flat button, small ancient looking pewter spoon bowl, horse rosette and another toasted copper with a couple hash marks in it.

The armor on the vest of the silver reminds me of some of the George III halfpennies, maybe a higher denomination for him?

Perhaps a 6 pence? Its the closest i can find for a silver kgiii. Says 21mm is 6 pence diameter. I'll try to guesstimate the half i have

Nice finds, congrats! I think it could be a partial George III counterfeit halfpenny made from some type of alloy (different mix of copper, tin, zinc, arsenic etc.) It would also explain the lower signal on your machine. A high content silver coin of this size (or even a copper one) would still give a high signal, unless it was laying on its side.

It's way too big for it. A six pence is a bit larger than a dime.

Very nice finds for a hunt in the middle of the woods!!! The fact that the coin looks silver and is broken seems to point toward counterfeit. Basically what Aureus said. Very cool in my opinion.

I don't think it's English.

Definitely looks like George III halfpenny. Both, the partial cuirassed bust of King George on the obverse and Britannia on the reverse seem to be visible. Maybe not British made but a colonial counterfeit in my view.
