The copper looks to be a Virginia halfpenny:

Contemporary fakes are possible, but you would need to weigh it to determine that for sure. In any case a very good find!

For a coin that old it's looking pretty good congrats on a really nice early American / pre American copper!!! I really hope to find one of those some day but Massachusetts is a long way from VA!

I have found five of those here in SW PA, but there were a lot of Virginians in this area, You normally don't see them turn up in New York unless there were Virginia troops in the area.

Nice find

You are still finding stuff there (and good stuff at that).

Your tavern threads are fun to watch.

Steve in Pa thanks for the info GW used this place for a few weeks as his temp headquarters and I think the Virginia division often stayed with him as he was from Virginia I know the other divisions were in other sections of my area so I was thinking maybe that’s why it was there I found a Massachusetts 4th regt button here awhile back but can’t seem to find anymore I’m sure there were lots of soldiers guarding him . It’s killing me there is a huge field that’s now swamp and badly overgrown at the far end a stream if the British were to attack they would have to have that field covered unless they were only concerned about the roads that led here cause the other trooos were near these roads - but there was also a old road that led to the stream and over the mountain so they would have to have it covered I don’t think I’m going to be able to do it as you would need machinery and it’s swamp covered with prickers thorns and other vegetation that’s very tall . This was also a very busy tavern one that was spoke of as being upscale and many travelers n military frequented it so not sure if my theory is 100 percent
