I have been going back to the scout camp on a regular basis, but have not gotten around to posting the finds so today I thought I would catch up on some of them. I have been working 2 camp sites, a small one and a much larger one (based on the capacity of the site when it is set up and ready for campers).

I spent 6 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 150 coins with a face value of $11.19, a stainless spoon, 2 aluminum ingots, 5 Boy Scout neckerchief slides, a rope tensioner, a Kennywood squashed penny, 2 fishing lures, an inflator valve, a live 22 round, sinkers, a penny someone cut in half, 98 tent pegs and a long lost sheath knife in horrible shape.

The ingots look like someone melted some cans and poured their own. They are not commercially made. I’m not sure what they were made for, but these are not the first I have found at camp.

As unusual I found a lot of the large pegs used at camp including one big Bertha in the front of the other pegs and the rusted up,sheath knife with the wooden handle rotted away in front of that.

On another trip in 5.5 hours I found 130 coins with a face value of $8.58, a mess kit fork, moms good stainless spoon, a pin back, a 3 year service pin, lots of sinkers, a newer version of the replica cob coin, some rope tensioners and a full set of stainless ware.

And 108 tent pegs with 2 little Berthas and a dead mag light.

On my last trip I found 173 coins with a face value of $11.82, a mess kit spoon, an aluminum ring, fishing sinkers, a 1 year service pin, a scout pin, a rifle slug, a Kennywood squashed penny, a neckerchief slide, 2 replica cob coins, a live 22 round and a multi tool in a case.

Only 63 pegs this trip and a file.

All in all in 2 trips with 11.5 hours of detecting to complete the small site I found 280 coins with a face value of $19.77, 206 pegs and 5 neckerchief slides. In the larger site it took 4 trips and 24.5 hours to complete and I found 637 coins with a face value of $47.11, 277 pegs, 4 neckerchief slides and an older style axe head in really good shape.

The scout camp keeps giving and giving. The camp is only 49 years old so I don’t expect much special. I did get more gas money, slides to clean up and give to new scouts, a few interesting tidbits and lots more pegs given back to camp.

Scouts loose a lot of stuff, but most of them are smart enough not to wear expensive jewelry to camp. Bad for me and good for them. I have found a few older goodies from the original farm so you never know what will come out next. That keeps me coming back out of curiosity and I do like finding money. It’s a lot of work, but I do have fun and it’s good exercise for an old man like me (I’ll be 70 in a couple of months). Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
