We went back out to the drained pond and headed up the other direction. My diggin buddy got 3 silver catholic medallions, a pocket watch, a merc, war nickel, V nickel, 3 buffalo nickels and some wheats. I found 2 Merck’s, silver Rosie, silver catholic medallion, a tag, pocket watch, collar stud, some buttons, clad, crappola and a brass oar lock made by E.J. Kerns Worcester mass patent date Nov 8 1886 and a silver Christmas tree lookin thingie. We froze our behinds off and hit a hot spot just as we had to leave so we will be heading back for a day 3😬

I bet if you do a little research you will find there was a swimming beach there and the tag is a key tag for lockers.

Might be tempting to pass up mid tones as there are probably tons of lead sinkers, but I wouldn't!!!!

Based on the finds so far, I would agree that it indicates a swimming area at some point. Keep going and best of luck to you.

Wow, you are killing it. I would make sure to dig the low numbers, has to be gold there, maybe a lot of it. Can't wait for day 3 report!

It is an old beach hang out, lots of imported sand but there is so much glass and junk in the water folks went elsewhere. There is a beach on the far side of the pond that is still popular to this day but I wouldn’t swim in there on a bet. I’m pretty sure it was a beach before they dammed it up, probably when the mills were still in operation. When the water is up, the sandy area we hunt is completely submerged.

Old oar lock.
From what I researched, EJ Kern made specialty oarlocks for crewing boats/teams, more than likely from a college of the Holy Cross crew team as its very close by.

I think you are right about that. The more common oarlocks for typical rowboats are either cast round on top or have a horseshoe shape to them. I still have a bronze pair somewhere that I used well over 50 years ago.

Great finds! As much as I care about your safety you need to get in that water while it's low. there's got to be more!!!!
