First Capped Bust Half Dime

I decided to go to a spot that I saw last week that had a natural spring and looked like it would make a nice campsite. I located a lot of iron and slowed down. I found a broken colonial shoe buckle, another type of buckle I’m guessing from logging days, two musket balls and a unknown bullet. I only had a hour and I thought it was a good scout hunt. I was walking back swinging as I went and heard the bullet tone. I thought it was another round ball so I dug it up and thought I found a half reale. After I got home and soaked it for a minute in distilled water I noticed it was a 1830 half dime. I think I need to go back and do more than a scout hunt. Great find! Capped busts are beautiful! I guess living in Western Washington where there are continual rains I don’t notice springs since there are continual rains. I’ll have to keep this in mind when I’m in drier environments!

Very few natural springs left around here. They tiled the springs so they could farm the ground. Maybe very old maps would show the springs. ?? Gary
