I only had time for a hour hunt so I decided to go over a good spot real slow that has really produced. I first got a dandy, then a modern bullet. Next I got the huge lead signal and I dug a what is that a lead canister shot? Then I got the 85 and I was 3 feet from where I found my tree schilling. The coin was covered in crud but was the right size. My hour was up so I left. I didn’t know till clean up that it was a local store token. Super beyond cool and will be donated. The canister shot turned out to be a pewter glob.
I do wonder because I have found 3 pewter musket balls in the area. I know crazy thought.
My question is I know the place this token belongs and the condition is bad. Have any of you had a depression token in this bad of condition and saved it and how? I know of only one other. Thanks

Just wanted to say congrats on the token! Even in bad shape, I think it's awesome, a token is a bucket lister for me :)

Aluminum. Yes I can make out the store name and know the family. I would like to clean it up for them. They know of only one other that exist. I tried baking soda and finger rub but that really didn’t help. I’m thinking of trying a rust remover. Anyone save a aluminum token this bad off before? Thanks

My experience with dug aluminum tokens is that there will be a lot of pitting under any areas of surface corrosion, unfortunately. I've been pretty disappointed with the ones I've tried to clean up. Cool find nonetheless.

I love tokens like that! One of my biggest dreams is to find one from my hometown. Not likely cause it wasn't big 100 years ago but you never know. Congrats!

Corroded aluminum is tough to deal with. Most of the time when you remove the corrosion, you remove the detail with it. Sometimes Aluma Bright will do a decent job. Depends on the extent of the corrosion. If there is tar or something similar stuck to the aluminum, I'd start by soaking it in Acetone. That should dissolve tar, paint, glue, etc, without damaging the token.
