Another day at the pond

Went out for a short 2 hour hunt with my buddy at the partially drained pond. We went up the other side again as we’ve beat the Christmas out of the catholic summer camp. Anyway, managed a ‘45 merc and a sterling medallion plus the usual crapola. The little fishing lure is just one of about 400,000,000,000,000,000 that I dug today, they sound good. Anyhoo, that’s it, just lucky to be diggin’ in February.

No, but I can open my own church (; this is everything minus the silver coins, my buddy who out hunts me constantly has at least double this plus 4 or 5 gold rings. That had to be one of the most fun series of hunts I’ve been on in a while.

I wouldn't quit until they fill it again and even though you dig a ton of lead, dig all mid tones for the gold.

If it's sand at "the catholic summer camp" have you attempted a foot deep trench yet? I'm tellin' ya, we found good stuff over 4 feet deep. We came to the conclusion that the city had came out with fresh clean sand for the beach several times over a 100 year period.
I dug a 1887O morgan dollar out there that was one of the very last spots that no one had dug down at. Literally, hundreds of foot steps on the spot where the silver dollar was but it was 14 inches deep and not until I removed about a foot of sand that I got a signal and found it.
Digging just to get a spot to swing over IS a lot of work but it paid off huge at the drained lake (pond!) I worked. Maybe give it a try at the spot you know there should be more at? GOOD LUCK! Wish I was going with you!

Joe, great finds and as others have said, there has to be more. I like the idea of removing some sand to see what's deeper.

I would love to , however, the sand was brought in and is only a few inches deep then you hit pebbles, stones, rocks, and finally boulders and once you’re down 5”or 6” your hole fills with a rather foul smelling liquid that was once water. I’ll take a picture and you will see that a trench would only be possible with heavy equipment. The rest of the pond is lined with at least a 10” layer of rocks, broken bottles and other debris, it’s actually not a very pleasant place to dig(;

A lot of the time, he’s been detecting much longer than me and happens to be the luckiest f***** on the planet. Anyway, he uses three different machines, at gold, minelab explorer and a simplex.

Ah ok.. I have a good friend like that.
If we go to a casino (RARE for me) I lose my 50 bucks in minutes, she wins 400.
Some people are just that way LOL.

I hear ya lakes / Trash dumps / Storm sewer outlets (all the same here) are a pain to hunt but do have some nice relics esp in Mass .

Gotcha, Joe. It's doubtful that items would be deep if the floor is hard. Guys were using hoses to keep the never ending flow of water seeping into our trenches out.
Most had given up and I was out there in an area that was not so productive (because the ares that were productive had been dug down 4 plus feet!) and I dug down about 18 inches or so for say a 10' by 15' area and found my first shield nickel that was another 6 inches deeper.
I have fond memories of the drained lake. I do remember how bad it smelled but it didn't stop me!

Joe, I’m really enjoying this journey you are on with this drained lake...just want to mention-don’t discount those fishing lures, some old lures bring big bucks!! If you get a chance, research fee-bay or other sites for old lures, you just might have a little gold mine! Ddf.
