I dug a neat one today, but not sure if it is a "real" or reienactor's buckle yet.

Had a call from a friend who wanted to hit an area on a ridge behind an old church. We hunted there for 3 hours, and I found this along with a few buttons that I am cleaning. I know they have had reenactments there in the past, so I am not sure if this is genuine or a repro yet. I have to take the measurements and check the books.

UPDATE: It measures exactly 55x74mm and matches the Ohio Militia plate shown as plate 846 on pg 503 in the book American Military Belt Plates by O'Donnel & Campbell. However it appears to be post war, with the date range given in the book as 1875-1890. Still will become a keeper in my collection.

It's a great piece! I would have guessed by the back late 19th century, but you beat me to it.

What an amazing find creskol, sounds like you've found the real deal with that Ohio Militia plate. :occasion14:
I'd love to see the buttons you found as well.
