All i think of everytime I metal detect is how much I wish I was into metal detecting when I lived on Long Island. There is no limit to what you can find there. The history goes back as far as the 1650's.

My only advice is , DO THE RESEARCH.

LINY has been inhabited for a very long time so just about anywhere will turn up something. I'm afraid you'll need to be more specific about what you are hunting for old coins, jewelery etc...
