I went back the the early site today where I’ve found shoe buckles and a King George II 1732 coin recently. I found a Masonic cuff link, some flat buttons (one unusual) and this military button. From what I can tell, it’s a Queens Rangers 1st American button. Needless to say, I was stoked. Does anyone have more information on the button, I believe it’s Revolutionary War or earlier. Thanks!

That is a Revolutionary War button. Nice. This is the later style. Their first style, which is a lot harder to find, had a "QR" only on it. Numerous ones of that type were found in NYC about 85 years ago.

These buttons are found especially along the northern NY area.

From what I’ve determined, they surrendered with Cornwallace at Yorktown and were moved to Winchester Virginia where they were held as POW’s. Apparently that’s how the button made it to the Shenandoah Valley.

More than likely. I have owned a few over the last few years. If you watch the series Turn, Washington's Spies, it prominently features that regiment.

Thanks for the link, I especially like the information about preserving it with Elmers glue. I sure don’t want it to fall apart on me.
You can glue it if you like but it looks stable to me, so doesn't need it. Although I would Museum Wax it.

A great resource for Revolutionary War buttons I found is Insignia of Independence. It is $75 on amazon but the Gettysburg Press offers it at a discount, $45. It has a short write up (page 169) about the button, a little more than the George Washington Inaugural site

I would always spray mine with flat polyutethane from a can, then quickly take a paper towel (paper towels now on the endangered species list), and blot the excess off and let it dry. Never have to worry about it that way. The Elmer's can contract and expand because of moisture.

Nice finds
Love the Rev War button and the Masonic cufflinks. I found a pair of the same cufflinks.
