Well Yeaterday was pretty darn amazeballs!! Literally just said whatever and took a ride to the East Bay Area of Rhode Island, these farms date back to the 1600s and beyond, started a bit slow with only a few tin and foil hits at the first spot, looked at the aerial view and spotted a bunch of old farm fields just down the street, took a short ride and asked a guy working on the building if he cared if I went into the fields to find some old stuff, he said have at it! Ended up taking a long walk to the back of the field and lone behold the only signal I heard the whole time there was a clean 21 on the nox, figured maybe a deep large cent, to my utter amazement 8” deep out pops a A.D 300-400 ROMAN COIN!!!! My first and super high on anyone’s bucket list, who would have thought in RI?! Ended up swinging a while longer without a single hit and said time to move on. As I was Driving down the street noticed a section of farm field marked out for development and asked a neighbor if he minded if I tried to find some history before it’s developed, he said he’s never seen anyone try it so go ahead and try, BINGO!! Covered about 3/4 of the field and holy smokes did it pay off!! No one has ever hit this field and it showed! 4 1/2 Coppers only one had any detail, ended up being what I believe is a 1723 Hibernia?, buttons, musket balls, and some cool bale seals. Definitely a darn good beautiful day saving history!! Still in awe!

I guess the sign on Route 95 should say Welcome to Rome Island! What an amazing find. Congrats, neighbor!

Nice find. I would think that would have to be one of the oldest coins ever found in the US. If not the oldest.

Were you on or very near the water. Possibly part of ships ballast

Could it be a Roman coin dropped by the lost ninth Roman legion on it’s way to oak island?

About a half mile from the coast, there were Rev War battles here and I know there were trading post here in this exact area, I’m just stumped as to how it got here, it’s definitely genuine but I’m still flabbergasted as to how it got here.

Not as rare as you would expect.

You guys are a lover of History & buy many thousands upon thousands of these, that doesn't include the accidental dumping from ship ballast.

You only have to search TNet & we have had lots of US posting Roman Coins all across the Country.

However, in relative terms to us in the UK, it's a Very Rare Find.

Wish the emprer could talk on that coin! Rhode Island is a long way from home for him. The letters below the fellow on the reverse should be the mint mark and you may be able to find where it was made. Awesome find!

Absolutely amazing find Mike! This has happened to one other Massachusetts hunter that I know. I love hearing about these finds that happen once in a blue moon. What a lucky day for you! People talk about the ballast possibility... sure it's possible but I bet it was a lucky coin carried by somebody!
