Got out again Friday and hit the plantation still trying to piece it all together. Chip latched on to the roadway into the home area where we see the original drive in early aerial photos while I kept concentrating on an area I believe to have had the company store/trading post. I love this place as the variety never ends. Here's some shots of my finds and I'll show again after cleaning, which is all done except for 2 big box axes still in electrolysis. Enjoy and happy hunting! Maybe Chip will throw his finds in here some where too!

OK smallfoot, here are my finds from this day at the plantation.
Everything except a large, heavy wood Axe head that I handed to the property owner without a photo of it, and my prize of the days hunt in the last photos below!:

An 1897 Indian Head Cent, and the pocket watch part has a Patent stamp of 1891!

Thanks for posting yours Chip! That wasn't a bad day. I've still got the box axes on the electrolysis. We can get those to the property owner too. Love the variety of that place. I expect one day there'll will a big surprise waiting on a coil!

Funny how those IHCs were found about 100 yards apart but the soil ate one and not the other.

I finally put together an electrolysis bath! Here is the same Indian Head Cent from my above post, after the electric bath!

That came out pretty good. Some people say electrolysis doesn't work well on non-ferrous. In limited amounts, I've found different. Some coins are touchy. By experimenting with different donor metals, and bath solutions other tasks can be done too. Copper plating, then to other metals..

50/50 mineral oil and beeswax. I usually heat the piece up enough to boil any water left on or in the item and have a tank large enough to submerge the item. You can lean a little heavier on the wax part to make the wax finish be harder. When mixed 50/50 it gives you the consistency and appearance of cosmoline. If you warm the piece up and just add the paste to the item, you'll see it melt and run. It holds up well but because it stays "greasy" it would be best used on items displayed but not necessarily moved very often.
