Yesterday I went back to campus and did some swingin with the CZ21 on the far end of one of the fields. Man was that place loaded with tabs. Unfortunately it was not loaded with coins or goodies. In 5.5 hours I found only 22 coins with a face value of $1.34, a piece of a horseshoe, 1.5 ace bandage fasteners, a modern copper jacket bullet, a round ball, some football spikes, an interesting tool, a little can slaw and 136 tabs.

The roundball is a .58 cal. The white oxidation has been eaten off in spots like some of the other civil war rounds I have found.

The tool has a brass end like I have seen on fireplace tools. But it is not like any tool I have ever seen. The steel is badly rusted and the brass top has been mashed in on one side. If anyone recognizes what kind of tool this is and how old it might be I would appreciate any input.

Today I went back to the old high school and spent 6.5 hours with the CZ21. I found 31 coins with a face value of $1.78, a 20th century brass belt buckle, screw in spikes, ace bandage fasteners, a religious medal, a gold ring, a dog tax tag, a 1955D wheatie, and 86 tabs (mostly older pull off ring tabs).

The religious medal has Jesus on the front and Saint Christopher on the back. The dog tax tag is a 1960 Allegany County tag.

If you dig all those mid tones you will find a lot of these

And a lot of these

And sometimes one of these.

Gold is always a welcome sight. The ring is 14k with a maker’s mark. It weighs .10 troy ounces or 3.2 grams. It’s. It a big heavy one, but still a nice find and if I sold it it would be a nice bonus for the day. I prefer using the troy ounce measurement because the local dealer who has the best precious metal prices pays by the penny weight. A penny weight is .05 troy ounces. So this ring is 2 penny weights.

This will be my last post for a while. The governor just issued a stay at home order and we cannot go out unless it is essential. I like to think detecting is essential to me, but I don’t think the state troopers will see it that way, so no more detecting for now. Hopefully I can get back to detecting before the end of April when my detecting year ends.

Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.

Nice! You found the pull tab breeding grounds! Be careful, they breed this time of year.

It sure seems like they multiply sometimes. If I remove enough of them maybe the remaining ones will be too far apart to breed. What do you think? Keep swingin if you are allowed to leave home.
