I believe DigToChina has nailed it. My first glance I saw the same thing. Called a "Ring Pull", and my guess as a former Antique furniture seller on the side, it would be from a Victorian era piece, used as a cabinet door pull.

The one you have is of a much higher grade, and older than the example. IMO.
