It's a Civil War period button. They can get pricey. Don't overclean it. I'd mechanically clean it only. With that backmark it was made pre War and is considered a Southern school button. It's a great find.

Smokey is right. That is a good school button, CW period, and considered Confederate by collectors. Worth a few hundred dollars.
