Interesting Figure Head/Bust & more buckle loops!

Yesterday morning I got back to a site that I first detected in 2014. I have a very short window to detect this site in, as the farmer has always done a quick rotation between disking and seeding. My finds aren’t the best, but at least they’re interesting. My first find was the stamped brass bust of someone ‘BORN 1784’. I’m not sure what this was from, maybe the top of a commemorative set of teaspoons?

I’d sure like to know who this gentleman was though… possibly a British Prime Minister or a US President? I also found a couple more of the Isaac Campbell Knapsack Loops and an iron reins guide.

My buddy pepperj is a real wiz when it comes to research and he suggested the bust is possibly British Prime Minister George Hamilton-Gordon.


"George Hamilton-Gordon was the 4th earl of Aberdeen and was British Prime Minister for just 3 years 1852-55, before this he served as diplomat and in various ministerial posts. Born in Scotland he inherited the Earldom from his grandfather in 1801. He became a significant figure in central European diplomacy after his appointment as Special Ambassador to Austria in 1813. In 1814 he signed the Treaty of Paris, ending the Napoleonic wars, on behalf of the King. He later served in the government of the Duke of Wellington as Foreign Secretary (1828-1830), and became a Peelite, serving again as Foreign Secretary (1841-46). In 1852 Aberdeen formed a coalition government of Peelites. However, Aberdeen was unable to avoid conflict with Russia and war was declared in 1854. Public attitude towards the resulting Crimean War led to Aberdeen's resignation.

Died: December 14, 1861"

Yes, it's amazing to think what they were using the leather straps for... and what about all the 'J' hooks?
Of course, I'm only assuming these came from the backpacks, as I've only found one backpack badge here so far.
