Damn...that thing is gorgeous. Don't see many
$10,000+ coins! :occasion14:

I doubt that it's a five figure coin( being dug and all...details)....but it sure is a coin valued at many thousands
We see a ton of valueless and low value coins day in and day out, but every once a while we see the exceptional
Good job posting your buds find JD!

You've got so many cool finds there Bob, I'd have a field day just cleaning them up and posting the pics. :laughing7:
Of course, your buddies 1799 Silver Dollar is an amazing find, but your misc. finds really tell the history of the site.

Interesting little nameplate and brass disc. :thumbsup:
Dave

I have not hunted the site where this thing was found, nor have I met the guy that found it. My diggin’ buddy digs with him on occasion. I was just sent a text with the picture of the coin and the town where it was dug. So looking on the bright side, things like that are still out there waiting to be found. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to vomit again (:

That is an incredible coin. Out of curiosity, I went on line to investigate the differences in coin strikes and came across some interesting points. The arrangement of the stars, 100 cents around the rim, the size of the date, etc.
One thing I found interesting was that these coins have been copied in brass and then plated in Silver. It is well worth the time and expense of getting that bad boy out to PCGS.

From experience and reading accounts on TN stories like this usually start with "So a friend of mine found a 30 year old radio shack detector in his grandfathers closet so I took him to a field I've hit to death and he found this when he turned it on where we parked the car".

If that happened, I would have opened fire with my .45 (;

Joe-Dirt,
I'd guess your initial reaction was probably about the same as the guy who lost it.
Don...

After reading Don's comment, got me wondering, looked it up. In 1795, 1$ was worth 1$, today, in 2020, that same 1$ would be like losing a $20 coin. That was 1795, in 1799, 1$ was I think worth 92 cents?, (forgot to write it down) NONETHELESS, It's like man O man, to find something like THAT, and in so nice of shape?? wow factor...I'm thinking that in 1799 that dollar would have gotten you 4 spanky brand new horseshoes. INSTALLED.
