I went to the woods yesterday after work for a short hunt. While I don’t know the property’s history, I saw a lot of interesting old stone walls, so I assumed there was a farm there at one time. For the first hour, I wandered around hitting nothing but shotgun shell headstamps and a few old pull tabs. I was running out of time, when I got a steady sounding 17 on the Equinox. While I admit I don’t dig every signal, I typically dig anything that has a clean steady sound, particularly if the VDI is over 10. Although fairly convinced this was another headstamp, I dug anyway, especially since the VDI was on the higher side. After excavating through a tangled mess of roots and chasing an elusive signal in my dirt piles with my pinpointer, I finally spotted a small circular sliver of metal. “Please, please don’t be aluminum,” I said to myself, as I picked it up to inspect. Not aluminum, but a tiny trime, my very first! It is an 1852 Type 1 variety, so it is an older and more common issue. After that I could barely concentrate. Still, I managed to dig a padlock marked “Lucky,” which is certainly how I felt. So far, I have been unable to find any decent info on the lock, so any insights you could share would be much appreciated. Thanks for looking. Happy Hunting and good luck out there!

Wow congratulations I found my only trying on a shell bed in the middle of a swamp I’d say we both earned our trines. Congratulations

I’d say oddly enough I had the same excitement on my only trime as my 2 8 reales. But My tram wasn’t my smallest silver I hit a 1889 1/4 reales from Guatemala. the 800 hits on that small silver.. it’s scored me half times too. You got a love that early American silver.

Steve congrats on an excellent find! Still haven't gotten over one! I love the design on those... the reverse kind of has a strange gypsy / magic feel to it with the art! Looks like yours is in great condition!

It looks like you had a great "trime"! I found my first trime last year, I'm also in Massachusetts, it's a great state for coins!

Thanks. A swamp sounds more challenging than my woods, but it certainly paid off for you. I would love to hit even one Spanish silver myself.
