Pulled off the road for a quick hunt where I noticed some large old stumps, got a really good large copper signal right away and found a 1833 "hard times" token:

Haven't messed with it at all, will try to pick some of the crud off with a toothpick and see how it looks underneath.

Here's some information I found about the coin:

Hard Times tokens were issued privately when banks suspended payments and would no longer issue coins in change. The “I Take Responsibility” token shows President Andrew Jackson coming out of a money chest holding a money bag and a sword wearing a royal military uniform. This satire expresses the idea that it is bad for the executive to control both the treasury and the army. Because Jackson was not a good speaker and poorly educated, he was sometimes portrayed as a jackass especially when Harvard gave him an honorary LL.D degree. I TAKE RESPONSIBILITY is what Jackson said after he put the funds of the Bank of the United States into twenty-five state “pet banks.” His explanation was, THE CONSITITUTION AS I UNDERSTAND IT. ROMAN FIRMNESS was a taunt of the day to describe him. The word VETO below the Jackass referred to his veto of the Third Bank of the United States.

Very nice find. I have only found 1 President Andrew Jackson Hard times token, and it's in about the same condition as yours. At least I was able to identify it. They are a neat piece of political history.

That cleaned up awesome. And those engravings are amazing. Definitely looks like Cheffer to me. I found a large cent with my first and last intials carved into it. I about fell over when I saw those. Play that mega millions tonight, youre luck is red hot.

That's a neat token in and of itself, but the fact that it has our hometown and your screen name on it is nuts! Congratulations!
