Possible Shipwreck Treasure in North Carolina

Found this in the sand beaches of North Carolina today. It to me looks like a skull at the top in Black and then a bronze possibly claw or tooth attached. The gold like metal sparkles in the black seem different than the bronze part. I'm very new to this so any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

Melted or corroded bullet maybe?

Sure looks like a full metal jacket bullet from WW2 era. But I can't explain the lumpy clump it's sticking out of.
I know the military had concrete observation towers along the East coast, and according to my dad, they were outfitted with .50 cal machine guns. This could be a relic from one of them.
There are, or were a couple of towers still standing near Indian River, Delaware.

Great recovery! It would be easier to identify, of course, without the concretion at one end. I've heard of others freezing their concretion-covered find and then placing it in scalding hot water. The concretion then falls off. Don't take my advice, though, wait for the experts to chime in. Especially if your find is some type of ordnance.

Thank you all. If this is a bullet, is it common to find them bent/melted like this and with this much crustation? I'm nervous to try and break it off especially since there seems gold dust specked on it.

Doesnt look like any bullet Iv ever seen...

Looks like a brass or bronze cap or tip you need to clean off the rest to see what it actually is...

I went ahead and chipped away a little more of the black crustation. I do see the texture of where a shell casing would have been. Seen in picture.

Yep, it looks to be a cartridge..., with Black powder...!
So, be very careful....!
Better yet, wait for more advice, before committing to further restoration

I bet this is a .50 tracer. The tracer filling corrodes like hell even in much better environment. Other possibility is an AP bullet with the steel core corroded out of the bottom.

general public even today does not know how many German U boats were off shore - alot off NC beaches
and we fired upon them - usually with 50 cal bullets from shore and from the air - i have found those at different beaches up and down the coast
so have others

I’ve found several 50 cal WW2 bullets with black hardened tar substance in the OBX beaches. Looks like one. Nice relic
