My wife and I were driving down the Pacific Coast Highway 1 and hit a few spots along the way. The first areas were
the cliff tops overlooking the ocean. I metal detected this area before several times over the years so I knew the finds were
going to be few. I lucked out today with a 1940-S mercury dime near the edge of a cliff. Exactly 7 days ago I dug another
1940 merc about 2 miles north of this today's spot. Further down the highway I accidentally discovered a small park that
I did not know existed. It looked good, so I gave it a try. After turning on my machine for only 5 minutes I get a sweet hit
at 5 inches and dig a 43-D merc! It has that typical dark gray look you get on silver coins found near the salt water beach.
About and hour later on the other side of this tiny park I get a solid coin hit at 3 inches and out pops a standing liberty quarter!
I now have dug 18 SLQ's, 7 have dates, 11 do not...Oh well, I'll still take one any time. They don't come up very often.8-)

Congrats on the silver dimes and the SLQ! Can you provide a photo of the front of the SLQ with emphasis on the date area?

Nice finds from some out of the way spots!

Care to share, in general, what stretch of the PCH you were driving?
