Over the July 4th weekend I dug one of my best gold rings ever. Today I took it down to professional accredited jeweler and had him give his assessment on the diamond.

This is what he said:

Main stone Clarity is a SI-1, which is very good
Total weight of diamonds in 14K ring is about 1 karat
Center main stone weight is 3/4 karat
Color is I-J on main stone
Diamond cut is oval
Retail Value is about $4,200.00 !

So keep digging those nickel readings. I've discovered the ratio of gold rings versus nickels is about 1 gold ring for every 2,000 nickels. Most gold rings are in the foil/pull-tab range.

Retail value means little, you will unlikely be able to sell it for that. You need to know what the jeweler will pay you for it. VERY nice ring but they are hard to sell for anywhere near retail. I found one with similar size and clarity stone, maybe a little better color and when I took it to six jewelers my best offer was $600. This was some years back, but to actually sell it you will likely have to take less than half "retail" value.

I have no interest is selling it, even at retail price. The joy of having it and seeing beats any pile of $$$ you put on the table. It's like a victory trophy!

He thought it was 30 to 40 years old.

Awesome. I tell myself my nickel to golden ratio is 1000 to 1 . But that is with no scientific reasoning. I would wager that it might be closer to 2000. Every pole tabernacle is one step closer to that gold ring!
