I want to Thank Jeff of Pa for identifying the swedish 1 or coin.
And thanks to Mackaydon for the history of AF--The king who ate himself to death.

Perfect weather here for hunting the fields. The past couple of afternoons I have been hunting a field where an old farmstead stood many years ago.

These are my finds. The large coin is a 1761 Swedish 1 or coin.
The small piece of silver looks like part of the handle of a spoon--not sure.
I could use some help IDing the buttons. The backs of the small ones are toasted---Not too old I think.

Thanks for looking and best luck to all.

[Here is Mackaydon's story about the king.]

Great find.
BTW, the AF stands for Adolphus Frederick, king of Sweden between 1751 and 1771.His bio appears here: http://www.halfvalue.com/wiki.jsp?topic=Adolf_Frederick_of_Sweden
I couldn't resist adding this 'morsel' from that source: "The king died of digestion problems on February 12, 1771 after having consumed a meal consisting of lobster, caviar, sauerkraut, kippers and champagne, which was topped off with 14 servings of his favourite dessert: semla served in a bowl of hot milk. He is thus remembered by Swedish school children as "the king who ate himself to death."
Don.........

Mighty nice finds there Merf!

Did you do a lot of research on the site or was this mostly just stopping in and giving it a try?

Great Stuff. The one button looks like a Musicians button. I have never seen one like that but the design fits.

Merf those are great finds and I particularly like the buttons, they are very unique.
I have been hunting an old fort site and have been very fortunate to find some awsome buttons that I can't even find pictures for on the internet.
Maybe even rare, I don't know though.
Got to love those Indians as well, that one looks like it was not circulated much.

Merf. Great finds and I love the site picture. That field looks like it goes on forever. Looks like you got an intact crotal bell there too. The only one I've ever found was beat up and partially torn apart. Nice post!! ;D

Great farm picture. Be careful, it looks like you can step off the edge of the earth in that picture. ;)

Very cool digs, especially that 1761 Sewdish coin! From a Long Island perspective, that field is HUGE! There's got to be plenty more old stuff in all that land. Good luck!

way to go Merf

Maybe a lot more old ones like the 1761 coin lurking there for you to find.

I hope so!!

That is huge key too.

14 servings of his favorite dessert... wow probably went into a diabetic coma from all the sugar.

Thanks Birdman-----I guess back then all the coins were from other countries.
The USA did not start making coins until the early 1790s if I remember right.
