Still in disbelief right now after tonights hunt at my best site for early stuff. Accomplished two things I never really thought I had much chance of doing. A hammered English silver and a 16th century one at that:headbang: It also appears to have been bent like what they call love tokens over in England. Thanks for looking and so glad I could share my excitement with everyone

Why would anything be found anywhere? Someone at some time lost it. I'm assuming it wasn't a contemporary drop and that the coin was 100 or 200 years old when dropped--I'm assuming it wasn't a recent drop.

Toasted will have to tell us what types of finds were in its vicinity to get an approx date of loss.

It almost certainly was dropped in the 1690s based on other finds and the history of the site. Possibly a little earlier but I doubt much later as I have found little to nothing that would indicate any activity at this site from about 1700-1850.

Ya know toasted.....i thought to myself what an incredible coin that tree coin was, and how that would absolutely be impossible to top with a find that would be anymore significant. And then BAM......just a few months later and your holding a hammered coin thats quite a bit older....not to mention all the cobbs. Yes I did vote banner....and its well deserved !! Whats next ?? A chest of gold coins !! An incredible run your having...keep it up buddy !!

incredible. i probably swam or waded over this coin hundreds of times in my youth. happy to break my banner-voting cherry on this ridiculous coin. The fact that it's a love token cranks the knob from 10 to 11.

Ive walked over this spot dozens of times but mostly avoided it in the past. That is until I found those 17th century relics there a few weeks ago

Thanks. Its hard to decide which coin I like better. Tree shilling is definitely more valuable but the Lizzy is older and the fact that it was turned into a love token is awesome. Hard to say which one is harder to find. My 4 reales cob may be harder than both. Kinda like trying to pick one child over the other. Colonial era gold will hopefully be next
