This is a site I’ve been hunting for a few years on and off, thankfully it’s still producing. The only real challenge here now is swinging through the 6” high wheat stubble, I’m also now dealing with the wheat-grass growing taller in the rows. A lot of different types of buckles have popped up on this site and this past week was no different. I even found a horse tack buckle with the leather still inside it. The eyeball finds were plentiful as well due to the recent rain that we’ve been getting lately. I found a beautiful blue marble, glass cuff buttons, lots of pottery and glass shards, I even found an old ‘Lumar’ plastic tire from the 1940s or 50s. I also found a few interesting brass and iron relics.

This site has had at least two homesteads, a barn and silo on it at some point. The first home dated from around 1840 — 80, the second home, which was built 50’ away from the first, dated from approximately 1910 — 50 based on the age of the finds. I also found an 1844 Lower Canada Half Penny Token (Produced from 1842 — 45)

“During the first half of the 19th century there was a chronic shortage of small coins in Lower Canada. In 1835, following a government decision to remove all the lightweight pieces from circulation, the shortage became acute. No official coins were issued but the Bank of Montreal, the Quebec Bank, the City Bank and La Banque du Peuple were given authority to issue penny and halfpenny tokens of a weight similar to that of British copper coins.

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Dave, absolutely amazing! Way to keep your eyes open for non-metallic finds like the marble and pottery.

Thanks for your post my friend, sometimes the eyes make better finds than the detector does.
Yesterday, I did field walk of this site just to see what was uncovered by the snow melt, found some interesting glass and pottery finds.
Best of luck to you,
Dave

Nice finds. A buddy of mine found a couple of those horse tack buckles, misidentified them as sword belt buckles and sold them for $100 at his mother's estate sale :laughing7:

How come I never have that kind of luck Steve. :tongue3:
In the States you all have an amazing military history, where as here in Canada not so much
I always assume the majority of buckles I find are horse tack, but when I find one that's unique or that I've never seen before, now that's exciting.
Hope you're having a good year so far,
Dave

Thank you for your post Arfie.
You know you're getting old when you get more excited about finding an old marble then you do about finding an old coin. :laughing7:
I did a field-walk of this site on Thursday to see what the melting snow had exposed, just a couple of bottle necks, no more marbles.
Hope you're doing well in OR,
Dave

Thank's Dave ! It will be a better year if we can get a good rain now and then , we're in serious drought here.

I've heard the US Southwest has been very dry lately. A good friend of mine lives in Norco, CA he tells me they haven't seen any rain for months. :icon_scratch:
Digging in hard-pan dirt is never fun, lets hope you get some rain in your area soon.
Dave
