This is a site I’ve been hunting for a few years on and off, thankfully it’s still producing. The only real challenge here now is swinging through the 6” high wheat stubble, I’m also now dealing with the wheat-grass growing taller in the rows. A lot of different types of buckles have popped up on this site and this past week was no different. I even found a horse tack buckle with the leather still inside it. The eyeball finds were plentiful as well due to the recent rain that we’ve been getting lately. I found a beautiful blue marble, glass cuff buttons, lots of pottery and glass shards, I even found an old ‘Lumar’ plastic tire from the 1940s or 50s. I also found a few interesting brass and iron relics.

This site has had at least two homesteads, a barn and silo on it at some point. The first home dated from around 1840 — 80, the second home, which was built 50’ away from the first, dated from approximately 1910 — 50 based on the age of the finds. I also found an 1844 Lower Canada Half Penny Token (Produced from 1842 — 45)

“During the first half of the 19th century there was a chronic shortage of small coins in Lower Canada. In 1835, following a government decision to remove all the lightweight pieces from circulation, the shortage became acute. No official coins were issued but the Bank of Montreal, the Quebec Bank, the City Bank and La Banque du Peuple were given authority to issue penny and halfpenny tokens of a weight similar to that of British copper coins.

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Thank you for being the only Tnet member to post to my thread Cru. :laughing7:

This is the site where I found the sterling silver spoon a few weeks ago.
As far as I can tell the site has been consistently occupied since the 1840s, until the early 1950s.
The farmer told me that he won't be disking it until the spring, it'll be going to corn next.

Hope you and your Dad are both well,
Dave

Thank you Bart, it is a fun site, but the wheat stubble definitely makes it a challenge. :laughing7:
I'm heading back there now... the sun is just coming up here.

Hope you're doing well these days my friend,

Still you managed to get a few goodies in the pouch.
I know it's just the pareidolia acting up, but I'm liking the image of the left facing dude profile wearing a hat image in the picture of the token on the digger pedal.

I see what you mean buddy, especially if I squint my eyes, I'm pretty sure I can see the same bust you do. :laughing7:
Hoping we'll be able to get out detecting together again soon.

Nice work Antiquariun! Great collection of finds. Love your assortment of buckles.

Thanks very much for your post Silvermonkey.
This site still has so much left to give, hopefully it'll continue to give for years to come too.
Dave

Beautiful set of relics there! I love finding buckles of all sorts. Yeah, stubble-fields are sure not easy to detect.

Thanks for your post Eric. :occasion14:

The beans are just starting to drop their leaves here in Ontario, so the harvest should be starting soon.
This will mean at least a half dozen old sites will become accessible again... I don't think my shoulder can handle detecting wheat fields anymore. :laughing7:

Very nice finds,congrats!
Buckles are always cool to find and the halfpenny is in a good shape. Was wondering, have you tried the Elliptical HF Coil, maybe it can help to swing between the stubble rows?

Thanks for your post Anton, my buddy pepperj has the HF coil and he literally swears by it. :icon_thumleft:
I was actually thinking about getting the 13" round coil next for increased depth at 4Khz, although I've heard that it can add considerably more weight to the machine.

I've been using the 11" for 2-years now and I really like it, although as you mentioned, it's a pain in the shoulder trying to swing in between the 8" wide rows of stubble. :BangHead:
Hope you're having another amazing year,
Dave

Thanks very much for your post Bill, I plan on detecting this site again this morning.

Our government here in Ontario has just put us in our 4th lock-down with a stay-at-home order for the next 28 days. The stay-at-home order rules include "requiring everyone to remain at home except for essential purposes, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services (including getting vaccinated), for exercise close to home, and with the people you live with, or for work that cannot be done remotely."

Sounds like a great opportunity to go detecting to me. :laughing7:

Take care buddy,
Dave
