Hunting an old house site today and found an 1899 Barber dime, a 1900 indian head penny, an 1838 large cent and what looks like an 1818 large cent, all in a four foot area.

That's pretty amazing! The date range is incredible.
I've heard of large cents still circulating into the 1900s, but it's remarkable to me that there were two largies and only one IHP.
Thanks for sharing!

Finding all of those at once must have gotten your heart pumping....I imagine you'll be back to that area again. Cool recoveries.

That's exciting! I had a similar spill with 4 LCs, a 1st year IHP and a trime.

Congrats on a nice concentration of old coins. I'm thinking you have two separate 2 coin spills that just happened to be in the same area.

I wondered about that, I think you’re right, the coins were probably dropped years apart.

Awesome finds! Seems more likely they were lost 50+ years apart, right? You never know! I saw a video of someone finding a copper memorial stuck to a buffalo nickel recently haha.

Nice finds! Not likely to be a coin spill, since the large cent was not considered legal tender after the Coinage Act of February 21, 1857.
