Thanks BOTB! These seem to be the exception rather than the rule. Soil here is NJ is pretty rough on copper. For some reason a few of the older IHCs seem to fare a bit better. Not sure why :dontknow: Large cents when found are mostly dug pretty toasted.

Your soil sure does treat them well I would love to find one of those. Beauties.

What "jazz" are you talking about? I worked hard on the pics (took several shots to get them right) and cropped them nicely and put them together in a post with a subject line that was a little fun. Let me guess you're the kind of guy that dumps his uncleaned finds together with junk on the hatch back of his pickup and takes a group shot.

*I* prefer when people quote lyrics in their tag line that they get them right--your tag line has been wrong for years. It's "Rust never sleeps".

T nice I.H.pennies,but I prefer the posts just showing items without all the jazz,

One of my all time favorite finds was a IH that looked like it came from the mint right out of the dirt. I think the metal composition is more bronze than copper in the older IH's
I just looked the compositions on some of the older is copper-nickle and copper-bronze and some are just bronze.

Nice finds, nice post, nice pix!

I have found a few of th years of 1864 and 1865 that have come up in very great shape, and I have no explanation for the reason.

Erik, I did not want to get your dander up.And since I'm 88 now I don't get out very often ,but I was a hunting machine for years because I worked the 11 to 7 shift ,and was able to hunt early and long. I never posted photos of my finds, but you would be amazed at what those many hours brought up. And further,THE WAY i always read of 'RUST NEVER RESTS WAS THE WAY." Y ou did a super job in displaying your pennies, and they sure look very nice. Congrats.

Well,a great number of my fatty Indian cents did not fare to well in the soil here plus those flying eagle cents took a beating.Large cents were depending on the fact of no fertilizer being used.
