After a couple test runs on new fields finally something worth posting.
And this stuff is coming off a field we detect every year, not from the new farms...

Congratulations Westfront!
Probably, the winged angel coin is a Byzantine one from Constantine I( the Great).

Nice score Lu. Hope you caught some rain to soften the ground. Is that thing second from left, in with the bullets a plum bob? Good luck.

Westfront,

Congratulations on an outstanding hunt, good to see that you are back on track. Definitely a nice haul of Roman coins, both the silver and bronze have great details and look like they were dropped not too long after being minted. It is amazing what still comes out of the ground after being hunted multiple times. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

Hi Tim, we finally had some soaking rain and conditions are good now. Unfortunately the green manure in most fields is too high now. We have the potatoe fields now and the sugar beet coming soon. The piece between the bullets is a window handle. I hoped for a toy cannon.... :laughing9:

Thanks to Crudad first!
Yes, the rain we had did good. Compact soil, nice and wet with signals coming loud and clear! I try to get out as often as possible now.
Today we checked out a site on a new farm. All there, tiles, pottery, frags of sandstone, lead, but nothing else than loads of cal. .50, shrapnel and driving bands. We have to clear that trash...

Thanks Walt! I checked my records. I detected this field 21 times and i'm not the only one there...but probably the only one who knows the signals. :tongue3:

Are you going to apply anything with the bronze one to protect the patina?

If it is a nice one i soak it in pure water to get the salts out. Next after drying is a hot bath in molten antique wax. The wax will stabilize the brittle patina and is polishable. On a not so good one a coat of antique way will do the job.
