I’ve been on a long dry spell this summer, but last week I decided to start swinging again along the lakeshore at a local woods I hunt at. There’s been a long drought that exposed a lot of shoreline.

At the start I found a lot of bullets, fishing weights, and lures, not to mention plenty of pull tabs. A little while into the hunt I dug up two barber dimes: 1892 and 1912. I was very happy with these because they were my first silvers in quite a while.

About an hour into the hunt I got a mid range reading on my Ace. I thought it would be another bullet or lead sinker. But two inches of gravel down, and out pops a beautiful signet ring! My first gold after a year in the hobby. I think I’ll be digging pull tab signals for weeks after this :laughing7:

I think the ring seems fairly old because there’s no gold purity mark on it. It looks to be 14 or maybe 18k. There’s an inscription inside that seems to say “Tradit” or Trad+”. Anyone have a guess about the age?

Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

most of the markings are gone because the ring has been sized. I think the mark probably said 'Traditions' which in my opinion would have been the name for a particular style line of jewelry. My opinion is that it's likely 1960's or newer based on the font used in the marking. Based on the color of it in the pictures, it looks 10k to me but of course I'm just looking at a picture.

My first thought was "that's a nice chunk of gold". Then I remembered it was essentially a virgin site that was hiding two Barbers. Wow. You've found a great spot. I hope you can search it thoroughly before the water level rises.
