Had a good hunt today. Started off with new pennies everywhere ! As I got farther into the yard next to the sidewalk to the stairs I pulled out this Barber from about 7". I Love finding these! Then the very next good signal was this dateless Buffalo, and I like them date or no date too! Killer hunt for Me...! Everything after that was clad.
If any of You can make this out it'd be so much appreciated!!! The Barber is an O mint Mark which is My very first with that mint Mark. The date looks to be 1893, but I'm not sure. I can make out 18_3 for sure but the 9 almost looks like a 0 if it is. At first Jimmy D. That I was hunting with thought it was a 1903, but under a loop it's clearly an 18_3. I'd be grateful for any of your thoughts! Happy Hunting!!!!! 81CC1C7E-BE93-4902-8A16-0013025492C6.jpeg 261DB391-DEFD-4FFE-85F9-D011D62168D3.jpeg E1FF9CE3-F87C-4682-967F-02B8AF44436D.jpeg E55CFCF7-8790-4C30-926B-92F34FDA28CC.jpeg C38729CB-E987-4AD3-AC0E-A4C8DC3880EF.jpeg
I posted a few pics of the date. I'll be happy either way, but looks like an 1893?

Exactly!!! The 9 looks like a 0! Hmmmm
Don't think think the 8 can be much clearer? Hmmm.

1893-O and 1903-O are your only choices.
Most likely 1903-O in my opinion...
Fine hunt!

That's clearly an 8 if you look at it under a loop. Could it be a mis-strike?

I see it too, but I've never heard of such an error or variety... ???

Nice old silver Barber.
Here is pic of yours and 1903 barber dime.
Definitely looks like a "0". The "8" looks distorted but doesn't look like a "9".

The 0 and 3 are obvious so even though it looks like an 8, I would have to say it is a 9. 1903

The lower left hump of the 8 is a lot different than that of a 9. It seems to resemble an 8 much closer. Not that I'm trying to make it an 8. Just so much clearer under a loop as an 8. Doesn't even come off as a 9.

Very nice, congrats!!! (; anyway, it looks like the β€œ9” has damage to it and you have a 1903-O, in any case, great find!!!!!!!!!

I would bet on 1903, but, could be a 1908 too I guess. With the damage, the value won't change much between those two dates. Nice "O" mint regardless! :icon_thumright:
