Those of you who have seen my posts for years know I have a favorite old park in my former hometown that I have dubbed Seated Park. I started hunting there in the fall of 1996, finding my first Seated coin, an 1856 Dime, in the fall of 2000. I've used machines such as a Garrett Ultra GTA, Fisher CZ6A, Minelab Explorer XS, SE Pro with SEF and Ultimate coils and now my Nox 600, and through the years and hundreds of trips, I've been fortunate enough to find a total of 33 Seated coins, including one half-dime, 28 dimes, 3 quarters and one half dollar. The last was an 1888 dime on Halloween, 2015- been a 5+ year drought to date.

During that time, I had amassed hundreds of keepers, and I went out yesterday needing 2 to reach a total of 900. Second keeper coin for the day was the 1891 Indian, #900! Not long after, I nabbed the 1917 Mercury dime, which was the 400th Merc I've found in my hunting career, and second milestone of the day. I finished the day with 6 Indians, the Merc and a few old wheats. The 6 Indians brings me to a total of 526 Indians out of the same park.

One of the Indians (bottom left in pic) is an 187? It may be hard to tell in the pics, but it almost looks like it was shot by something that didn't quite push through. Unfortunately, the last digit is almost impossible to make out, even after its peroxide bath. Looks rounded, so kind of eliminates a 7, although from certain angles my old eyes were tricking me into thinking it was in fact a 7, but most likely a 2, 3, 5, 8 or 9. Oh well.

Thanks for taking a look, enjoy the pics and HH all!

Jeff

Edit- Forgot to include this cool button I found on the same hunt- had a horizontal anchor, shield and skeleton key- I didn't want to clean it to risk ruining it- anyone know the specifics??

You’re enjoying a great career, keep on digging! We should start a change.org petition to rename Massachusetts’ official nickname from “The Bay State” to “The Coin State.” We are truly lucky to live and detect here!

Wow, that is one awesome total and will be hard to beat. And finding an 1877 Indian is quite awesome. Is the soil that cruel to most of your finds?

No 1877, just wishful thinking! In some areas, the ground tends to stay wetter and the pennies come out in rough shape, other areas they come out like new- never know!
