My dad has an incredible coin collection. He got it out over Thanksgiving to show and tell. I had no idea the stuff he had. After combing through hundreds of silver dollars, halves and other old coins I found this token mixed in with a bag of miscellaneous coins in not so good condition. It is a Franklin Pierce Presidential token, holed for a necklace, keychain or watch. I can only assume it belonged to and was carried by my Grandfather, also named Franklin Pierce, who passed in 1989 at 91 yrs. An interesting piece of family history.

Just a bit of trivia: the fictional character "'Hawk-Eye' Pierce" in the movie and hit sitcom M*A*S*H was named "Benjamin Franklin Pierce." Nicknamed "Hawk-Eye" by his dad from a character in the novel "The Last of the Mahicans."
