I was very excited, then I noticed the text has been altered with ONE ****. Apparently dirty minds have been around for a long time! Has anybody else ever dug one of these? Please tell me the history on these alterations.

Well now I feel foolish believing the Hoover Boys definition. Either way it's a unique coin. My friend just dug a Hard Times token (no pun intended) with the "E" ending up being a "U" on that one. Here it is.. It makes a lot of sense now that these were joke coins back then and not brothel coins. Any one could make one and bring it with them for a wild night...

I have only found 5 LCs in MO but one of them is the C U Next Tuesday variety...

Not exactly evidence with any authority. Not a single source listed.

Here's the best argument for these not being brothel tokens. Lack of control. Enterprising gentlemen would have altered large cents themselves before arriving at the bordello. Not that hard to do. Pretty sure that any bordello using these would have become the hottest place in town, right up until the madam figured out that she was redeeming more tokens than she was selling.

And the latter half of the 19th century would have gentlemen moaning about the rate of inflation, as they used to get "Laid for a Largie.":icon_thumright:

Outstanding post. I chuckled. Well done.

That is a great find! Wow, I was unaware they were made that early. I have one with C*NT dated 1847. Only ones I have seen are in the 1845-47 range.

A dug dildo?? :laughing7: :cat: :laughing7: Sorry I missed that one! Was it metal? :dontknow: I think that's actually where Steely Dan got their name from.

Been a few years ago. Somebody pulled it out of a hole. IIRC another T'Netter told the story about having found a bunch of these in a storage locker and was reburying junk targets with a sample here and there.

Ha! I found a plastic one in a bean field this last Spring while detecting! Told the farmer about it and he had to go out in the field to see it . His young Grandson had been doing the disking in that field so Grandpa had fun teasing him!!

PepperJ, That’s a very good question. I am trying to research with relatives . My grandfather lived until the age of 99 for several decades at this house.

I have seen a couple of those posted elsewhere this year on other sites. I guess those were more of a thing than we realize. Very unique find indeed!

Nice find....when I was a kid and started coin collecting these coins were common finds in dealer's junk boxes.
