Made it out this weekend with a couple buddies from Tnet again. Focused on a couple obscure parks near the city.

First hole at the first cellar was a D buckle for me, ended up digging 6 at this spot in a couple hours.

Another handful of miners tags.

Some brass bits.

A few other items.

Some coins, IHP has nice patina and details, the crusty coin is a V nickel.

Found my second intact miners pick, decided to clean this one up, H in a crest makers mark, any ideas?

Also found a cane handle.

Thought it might have some historical interest, cleaned it up and the silver surface started flaking off.

Revealing what must be carved opal.

Or just plastic...

Good luck out there!

Very nice finds! If yall are ever in NE Ohio let me know. I'm younger and have only been hunting for a few years but it sure would be fun to do some door knocking or just hit the old parks around here with you SWPA guys...

I'm thinking the makers mark on the pick is Hubbard & Company... https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=8JZRAAAAIBAJ&sjid=AmwDAAAAIBAJ&pg=4510,1445378 Look at the bottom left of the newspaper, the logo is very similar although I think it is a bit newer. It is a company that made railroad supplies and that sort of thing and was headquartered in Pittsburgh. https://snaccooperative.org/ark:/99166/w66j1ggn

EDIT: here's an example of the older logo: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1913-ILLUS...LS-HUBBARD-CO-PITTSBURGH-PA-B5J-/293048437026

Another EDIT: Not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to this forum (it's a knife forum, not metal detecting), if the mods ask I'd be happy to remove it but here is a post on the Hubbard & Company: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/help-iding-db-splitting-maul-with-h-in-crest-logo.1217102/

Noah, you are absolutely right. That is definitely a Hubbard Pickaxe and a new digging tool for Thad :laughing7:

We find miners tags just about everywhere we go in SW PA. I have heard a couple stories about their use. One being that they were hung at the entrance to the mine so they would know who was in the mine if there was an accident. The other being that they were hung on each cart load that a miner filled so that he would get credit for it. I found these in one day at an abandoned mining village in Somerset county. These have a little more detail than most.
