Decided on a new name for this field1 of 250 acres with the Roman Site on it. Named after the hedge that ran throw the middle of it before the new owners took it out.
With the bad weather window we only gridded for 2 hours but did finish off one of the edges of the site. (Hence the lack of finds) I got lucky with the silver.:laughing7:

We then tried the only other intel we had on a 6 acre field but it turned up blank. Although because the intel showed the corner of the field which made no sense based on its landscape, we need to rule out the neighbouring field another time. (30 mins)

The saying is: There is a roman coin in every field. You make a roman silver out of it.... :laughing7: I have to try harder. At least we have the same weather. I like these muddy boots.... Colour of the brooch is amazing. I like when bronze almost turns blue. Looks like it was lost complete and damaged by th plough. It's a good start, way better than a blank. :occasion14:

This was a continuation, not a start (Day 2, the other target field was a blank). We have cover about 60% of the scatter & the better area. We will return to do the lesser side, so that we can finally map the full scatter. This will help inform us when we return for the Spring drilling because the conditions are super tough with ankle breakers & sticky boots. My legs/knees were pretty stretched today. Kind of glad it was a short window!
I think we can cover the rest in 1.5 days.

PS. Only our 2nd ever Roman Silver from this site (Gordian III), so not many around but we are not complaining, now on 31 for the year!

2020 was such a tough year in many respects and I'm so glad to see it didn't seem to affect the quality/quantity of your finds.
