Short and sweet, my mind is going a thousand miles a minute..,, pulled this from a spot we’ve dug two Spanish silvers.... but thinking it was Spanish, i could not identify it. I googled “posvi coin”, and these early, hammered, British coins appeared. “Groat?!”... I DO NOT KNOW... all you early British numismatics please jump in. Not going to flatten it out, can’t see a date as of yet.. Thank you... Ddf.

Yessir... I didn’t think leaving the house today I’d be digging an early British hammered coin (if that’s what it is)... Thx for looking. Ddf.

Thank you, and if this thing is legit, I’m going to send it off to have it professionally repaired.... if I get my booger pickers on it I’ll snap it into a gazillion chunks. Thx for looking, Ddf.

Dang... I've heard of plenty of Ohioans digging Spanish silvers but I can only recall one other time where old British coins were found here. Pretty special what you've got eh!

Its definitely a hammered English silver. The side folded in would tell which monarch you have. Cant tell from the pic but definitely late 16th to mid 17th century

looks like possibly an Elizabeth 1st. If so, that'd put it around 1560-ish

The mintmark looks like a Rose which would make it Henry VII 1504-09. But we need to see the letters better on the inside folded bit:

All I can see is [???] DI GRA REX [???] - I need to see what's before the DI?

What diameter is it?

Insane find for the US regardless of location. In Ohio is even more mind blowing. Congrats! Looking forward to the 100% ID from one of the experts but I'm not going to wait....Banner!

Thanks Cru, appreciate you jumping in and helping... I’m going to try to get more letters off of it today maybe post more pics since it does appear to be legit hammered silver. I’ll try my best to get a decent measurement. Thx again, Ddf.

Cru, I cannot (safely) see what is after DI GRA REX... at least for now. But the exact diameter was hard to zero in on, but is 19.75-19.85 mm. Thanks very much for the assistance. Ddf.
