Yesterday I had the opportunity to detect a house for 3hrs that was recently vacated by the tenant. This beautiful c1850 β€” 55 fieldstone house is slated for demolition later this year by the land developer. The house has been continually occupied for the past 160+ years, so modern trash was plentiful here. The first interesting find was the decorative pendant, based on the design, I’m thinking it dates from 1910 β€” 20. I also dug a 1916 Canadian LC, a 1928 Dog Tag and several US Wheat and Canadian Pennies from the 1940s. The painted mother and baby figure has a threaded metalcore, but what it was attached to I do not know. :icon_scratch:

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Thanks very much for your post TH, I honestly thought there would've been more to find.
I'm probably going to head back one more time later this week, I don't want to drive by again in a few weeks and see that it's gone. :sadsmiley:

Thanks for posting Hunk.
Best of luck to you,
Dave

Neat finds, thanks for sharing!
Thank you Rat. :icon_thumleft:
I've been to Nevada 15 times in the past 22 years, but I never had the opportunity to detect there.
Dave

Nice!!!!! Congrats!!!!!
Thanks Randy

That,s a beautiful house,sad it,s gonna be demoed.
I hear you crash, it hurts my heart to think that developers can't see the value in preserving the local history.
Just think, all of the amount of labor it took to mortar all of these stones in place. :icon_scratch:

Unfortunately, with the cannon missing it's now officially retired from military service Cru. :laughing7:

Thanks Bill, I'm going back again on Friday morning. I'll move some of the downed branches and grid the front yard better.

That is one enticing house!
The look of the stonework just oozes history doesn't it. :laughing7:
The problem is the folks who lived here collected scrap cars, which they stored at the side and back of their property for years.
Thankfully none of these cars ever made it onto the front yard.

Here's how the house looked in 2019 and in 2020.
Dave

Very interesting finds! Looks like a variant of Auspice Maria symbol on that pendant. Congrats and good luck on your future hunts!

It's sad to think, but this may very well be the case Mark. :unhappysmiley:
The soil here didn't produce anything really old which would reflect the age of the house, so everything old must be deeper.
Thanks for your post,
Dave

Thank you so much for the suggestion about the pendant I found Anton, I was wondering if this design had a name or if it was just random.
So, I'm now wondering if it might have a religious reference, as opposed to just being decorative? :icon_scratch:
I think I'm going to post this piece in the What is It forum to get some other opinions.

Our government here in Ontario has just put us in our 4th lock-down with a stay-at-home order for the next 28 days, sounds like a good opportunity to detect to me. :hello2:
Hope things are going well for you all in Quebec,
Dave

Thanks for your post and for your compliment Steve. :occasion14:
I restore my non-ferrous finds with a fine brass wire wheel on my bench polisher. I then use Conservators Wax to seal the surface and a buffing wheel to lightly polish the piece.
The surface of the piece will naturally darken again over time to a light brown color.

I always like looking at the before and after pics. :laughing7:

Congrats on a nice day out....I love that little tank. I used to get annoyed digging all the match box, hot wheels, and all the little toy cars. Then my son was born and he loves it when I bring him the cars...got him a die cast jet fighter the other day !!

It would be a sin to take that house down.
What's it's gone it's gone .
